Failed To Start Messaging Server With 'Permission denied' And 'cannot create mboxlist env directory' Error (Doc ID 1984145.1)

Symptoms

Messaging Server fails to start when the service is automatically initiated by Solaris' SMF ( = Service Management Framework ).

The message when it failed to start - as it appeared in the default log - is the following :


The owner and group of "/tmp/.mailsrv_opt_sun_comms_messaging64/" was "root/root",
where it was expected to match the Messaging Server runtime user,  typically be "mailsrv/mail".


Changes

In this specific case, packages removed and patches installed.
