Can The IM Httpbind Gateway Proxy XMPP Connections Over HTTP? (Doc ID 1996933.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 14, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Instant Messaging Server - Version 9.0.1.4.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Some customers are behind a firewall where the 5222 tcp port can not be opened up. The idea existed  the http port 80 could be used to do that.

This idea came from referencing the documentation on http://xmpp.org, specifically on Bidirectional-streams Over Synchronous HTTP (BOSH), on httpbind and BOSH,
where the httpbind is already setup  for Convergence WebAPP with Instant Messaging.

This is documented in the IM Administration Guide,  in the part of configuring the HTTPBIND Gateway, in the Wikis and new Oracle docs
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E61905_01/doc.100/e61907/im_config_im_httpbind_gtwy.htm#IMSAG345

But it's unclear how to use it with an Instant Messaging Client like Psi.
Testing with the url /iwc/svc/xmpp - as used by convergence Instant Messaging -  shows it does not work.
