"The specified account already exists" When Attempting to Install / Upgrade / Remove the P6 Professional Client Application

Information in this document applies to any platform.


When attempting to install / upgrade / remove the P6 Professional client application, the following error occurs:


The specified account already exists.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1.  Launch setup.exe to start the P6 Client install / upgrade / removal.
2.  Select any option (Example: Typical or Advanced).
3.  Observe the reported error message during the "copying new files" process.

Removing the application via Control Panel --> Programs and Features --> Uninstall/Change will produce the same error message.

The issue has the following business impact:
Due to this issue, users cannot install / upgrade / remove the P6 Professional client application.
