SQL Server SA User is Not Able to Log In and Database is Not Accessible (Doc ID 2049151.1)

Symptoms

When using a SQL Server database, the database is inaccessible and the "sa" user is unable to log in to SQL Server Management Studio.

Attempting to log in to SQL Server Management Studio with Windows authentication is possible, but the user is unable to update the password of the sa user.

The SQL Server errorlog file shows error:

"Error: 18456 Severity:14 Reason:8 Password did not match that for the login provided."

 

P6 EPPM symptom:  The database is not accessible to the P6 managed server and the server is unable to start.

P6 Professional:  User gets an "unable to connect to database" message and is unable to configure the alias properly.
