Convergence Reports "The Mail Service Is Not Available. Please Try Again Later." or "Authentication Failed" (Doc ID 2049696.1)

Symptoms

After logging in to Convergence, an error popup is shown:

The mail service is not available. Please try again later.

and the Mail tab is not displayed.

Or, users may not be able to login at all, getting an "Authentication Failed" error.
