CSC Indexing Fails With Database Errors ORA-01013 and DRG-50857 (Doc ID 2057322.1)

Symptoms

When indexing was manually begun for order or profile indexing in Commerce Service Center, it appeared to freeze at the step "Merging staging table tokens". After about an hour, the indexing job exits without completing and  some errors are logged:
