Error "Exception EXMLDocError in module PM.exe at 000FA87A. Filename cannot be blank" When Launching P6 Professional (Doc ID 2058851.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to launch P6 Professional, the following errors occur and the user cannot access the application:

Primavera P6 <version> has stopped working

(the application then closes)

and

Exception EXMLDocError in module PM.exe at 000FA87A. FileName cannot be blank.

 
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Browse to Start > Oracle - Primavera P6 > P6 Professional <version> and launch P6.
  2. The first error displays; click Close.
  3. The second error displays.

The issue can also be reproduced when an end user goes off of the office network or goes to a VPN connection.
