Error 'The Oracle Weblogic (name) NodeManager service on Local Computer started and then stopped' Generates an Event Viewer Error 'Unable to Set Current Working Directory!' (Doc ID 2060213.1)

Symptoms

After creating a windows service for the WebLogic Node Manager, the following error occurs when attempting to start the service:

The Oracle Weblogic <domain name> NodeManager (<path>) service on Local Computer start and then stopped.  Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.

The following error is logged in the Event Viewer details:

Unable to set current working directory! Supplied path = the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

 

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Open the Windows Services menu (services.msc) and start the WebLogic node manager service.
  2. Observe the reported errors.
