P6 Professional Status 'Not Responding' After Clicking a Menu Item (Doc ID 2075618.1)

Symptoms

The P6 Professional application freezes and displays "Not responding..." when a user attempts to select any menu item.  This issue occurs randomly, for various menu items.

Windows Event Viewer contains several events like the following (including for other non-Primavera processes):

The program PM.exe stopped interacting with Windows and was closed.
To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.
