Messages Are Failing to Get Processed From RIB Topic and Shutting Down the Adapter as Poisonous

Information in this document applies to any platform.
Occasionally messages are getting stuck in Retail Integration Bus (RIB) topic(s) which were failed previously and getting attempted to be retried. Further the messages are becoming poisonous and shutting down the adapter, thus leading to the situation where none of the corresponding family messages (including new) can process.
The following errors are noticed in the adapter log files:
Steps to Replicate:
1. Publish some messages as per the normal process.
2. When messages failed to get consumed with valid business errors, make some manual updates to the error hospital records ( for increasing the attempt count or correcting the message data)
3. Messages will ultimately get failed to process and adapter gets shutdown.
