OOB the IM content is generally set up to have articles assigned to certain usergroups and views. Then users are assigned to these same usergroups and views. Most often views are used by authors for InfoManager, and usergroups are used by end users in InfoCenter for visibility of IM articles. If useViewFilter is true in infocenter.properties then views are also used in InfoCenter. These usergroups (and views) are then passed in the search request for each user, and content is restricted to those usergroups and views via an oob rule called the security plugin. New types of parameters and rules could be set up to control security, but it is much more efficient and practical to use the OOB security plugin. This article tells how to enable this setup for non IM content and to allow non infocenter applications to control that content.
