Error: "AVAA0-0935-9" During P6 Professional Login, "TNS-12535: Operation Timed Out" Attempting TNSPING or "ORA-12170: Connect Timeout" Attempting SQL*Plus Login Connecting Over Microsoft DirectAccess VPN to a Remote Oracle Database (Doc ID 2102140.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to log in P6 Professional to a remote Oracle Database using Microsoft DirectAccess VPN, the following error occurs:

Message:  Access violation at address 00DEBA69 in module 'PM.exe'. Read of address 00000000

Note: 

  • Connection over SQL*Plus to the database fails with ORA-12170: TNS: Connect timeout occurred
  • TNSPING attempt to the Oracle Database fails with TNS-12535: TNS:operation timed out

 

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Connect to the network where the Oracle database is installed using the DirectAccess VPN
  2. Attempt to login P6 Professional Client
  3. Notice the AVAA0-0935-9 error
  4. When testing the SQL connectivity from the client workstation towards the remote database, the errors encountered are:
    • TNSPING yields TNS-12535: TNS:operation timed out
    • SQL*PLUS yields ORA-12170: TNS: Connect timeout occurred
