IM User in Associated Domain Under Convergence Schema2 has IM Status "Connecting..." (Doc ID 2130583.1)

Goal

With associated domains and mailAlternateAddress configured, we are seeing the following behavior with Instant Messaging (IM):

[a]  Both Alias and non-alias accounts can login to Convergence.
[b]  Only non-alias accounts can connect to IM via Convergence.
[c]  Alias accounts can not connect to IM via Convergence.  The alias account Convergence IM status is "Connecting...".
[d]  Alias accounts can connect to IM via Pidgin and can exchange chat messages with non-alias accounts which are logged into IM via Convergence.
