The Analytics Admin guide gives the start up procedures for getting the reports and analytics processing started and producing the correct reports. If these instructions where not followed for some reason then processing the IM metadata can be done after the fact. Here are the steps that will be documented in the next release of the Analytics admin guide.
Even if analytics events have been captured or processed from the client applications (Runtimes, InfoCenters, InfoManagers, Etc) and are in the DW_STAGE database, the IM metadata can be processed.
The reports will not be correctly labeled with metadata until the IM metadata is generated and processed. It is ideal to process that metadata first to maintain the most history of these objects as possible. See pg 18 of the 8.6 OK Analytics Admin Guide (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E38112_03/ok_8.6_analytics_admin_gd.pdf). Refer to the 'Importing Information Manager Dimensional Data' section .
1) is this ''Importing Information Manager Dimensional Data' absolutely required?
2) How often do we need to import this information?
3) What if some of the metadata is missing?
4) what if some of the metadata is bad data and we dont want to use it?
