Why Are "Did You Mean" Suggestions Returned For Some Misspelled Searches Instead of Automatic Spell Correction (Auto-correction)?

For certain misspelled search terms, why does the MDEX return a "Did You Mean?" link to click on instead of automatically correcting the search terms and returning the corrected results (auto-correction)? The default dym* and spl* options for the Dgraph are in use within the application's config/script/DgraphDefaults.xml file.
For example, when the search term strawberry is misspelled by one character, strawberri, MDEX returns an auto-correction based on strawberry. But when the same search is misspelled by two characters, strawberi, it returns a "Did You Mean?" link for the term strawberry. Why doesn't the second use-case get auto-corrected like the first?
