P6 Professional Consumes Large Amount of Memory Opening Large Grouping of Projects and Can Fail With "Event Code CCF"A-1298-1" and "Your System Is Out of Memory. Please Close Other Running Applications and Try This Operation Again" (Doc ID 2163503.1)

Applies to:

Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management - Version to [Release 16.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

When attempting to open a large grouping of projects in P6 Professional (x64 bit), the PM.exe process consumes a large amount of memory on the workstation.

For example:  12+ GB RAM are consumed to the point of exhausting all available RAM and can result in the following error:

An application event has been intercepted. Please note the event code for reference. Event code CCF"A-1298-1
Your system is out of memory. Please close other running applications and try this operation again.

If using P6 Professional 32bit, it will consume up to the maximum amount of memory a 32bit process can consume before the event code above is returned.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Login to P6 Professional
  2. Open EPS which contains a large amount of projects
  3. Result:
    • Open process hang at 56% and 99%
    • Memory usage of PM.exe continues to climb to maximum system memory (if 64bit) or up to 32bit process (if using 32bit PM.exe)
    • Event code noted above will generate in addition to the memory prompt.
