Can We Stop From Requesting IPv6 (AAAA) Records From DNS? (Doc ID 2163662.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 23, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Messaging Server - Version 7.0.5 to 8.0.1 [Release 7.0.0 to 8.0.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

All of the blocklists used are IPv4 only. Can we stop from requesting IPv6 (AAAA) records from DNS?

Example IPv6 queries hitting DNS hosts as a result of using

14-Jul-2016 19:02:13.850 queries: info: client <IP ADD>#29326: view default: query: <IP ADD>.<DOMAIN> IN AAAA + (<IP ADD>)
14-Jul-2016 19:02:13.851 queries: info: client <IP ADD>#31420: view default: query: <IP ADD>.<DOMAIN> IN AAAA + (<IP ADD>)

 *.*.*.* $C$|SPAMHAUS;$0.$1.$2.$3.$[,dns_verify,$3.$2.$1.$0.<DOMAIN>.|%a|$$N|$$N]|$Y$E

If we could reduce the DNS traffic by half that would be helpful, especially since that half will never ever succeed or be useful.
