Symptoms

Index and Searc Service (ISS) 1u5 p28

ISS will not start on some servers after upgrading to patch 28.  IndexSvc winds up in maintenance mode after upgrade.

checkstore was tried and all that is observed is an exception when executed:

IndexSvcProviderImpl.perform caught Exception: null

Changes

Upgraded ISS 1u5 from patch 25 (v1.0.5.25.0) to patch 28 (v1.0.5.28.0).
