Missing Messages on Store Although MTA Confirms Successful Delivery (Doc ID 2188638.1)

Last updated on APRIL 27, 2021

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Messaging Server - Version 8.0.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Sending messages in bulk, for example by using a perl script to the local Message Store may end up in loosing few mails.

On the frontend, it can be seen that all the submitted messages are processed and the Message Store confirms receipt of all messages. However, when checked via POP3, it can be found that few messages among them are missing from the mailbox. Upon checking the store itself (filesystem), one wouldn't find the respective '.msg' files.  Also confirm that the messages doesn't remain or returned to the MTA queues.

For instance, if around 1000 new messages are submitted, 'mboxutil -l' command output would show only 997 messages.  Upon enabling primary and worker debug and MM_DEBUG=10, one could see traces of those mails in the 'tcp_lmtpss*' logfile, and the LMTP server acknowledge receipt (returning 250 status code) for each of those three messages.

F
ollowing messages can be seen in the MTA logs:
