BCC Error During Deployment -"Unable to obtain exclusive deployment locks to one of more assets" (Doc ID 2196955.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 13, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Commerce Merchandising - Version 11.1 to 11.1 [Release 11]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On Version:

11.1 version, Catalog Management

Description:

The user is trying to deploy a project containing assets that are currently being used in other projects as well. Though this is explained in our product documentation I wanted to have a Knowledge Doc that references this error and the documentation explaining the error and how to resolve it so the customer can search for this in our Knowledge Base. When you have 2 projects using the same asset, this creates a conflict because you could potentially have 2 different changes made to the same asset at the same time, and upon deployment of just one of those asset versions in one of those projects, the asset that wasnt deployed will still retain the settings of the original version, and then when that asset is finally deployed it would end up overwriting the changes made in the version you deployed first. We prevent this from happening by preventing deployment of assets that are used in multiple projects at the same time and displaying this error.  I have also provided documentation references/links here with more details surrounding this topic.

STEPS to Reproduce:

-----------------------
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Go into the BCC
2. Start a project
3. Choose specific merchandise causing the error that is used in other projects as well
4. Make changes and attempt to deploy the project

Changes

No changes were made to the environment that caused this error. The error is standard functionality of ATG/BCC and designed to catch these conflicts and force resolution so as to prevent further issues down the road, if deployment had been allowed.
