After Configuring SMF, imadmin Returns Error - svcprop: Couldn't find property group `sunim' for instance `svc:/application/sunim:default'

(Doc ID 2200022.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 04, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Instant Messaging Server - Version 10.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After configuring SMF, the Instant Messaging imadmin command gives an "svcprop" error.
The commands seem to work, but the error is returned.

Example of the error returned from imadmin stop:

$ ./imadmin stop
svcprop: Couldn't find property group 'sunim' for instance 'svc:/application/sunim:default'.
Stopping Watchdog [FAILED]
Watchdog already stopped
Stopping Server [OK]

Example of the error returned from "imadmin version":

$ ./imadmin version
svcprop: Couldn't find property group 'sunim' for instance 'svc:/application/sunim:default'.
10u1-00.18 (10.0.1.0.0)

Note: In this particluar case, "imsadmin smf-register" was not performed to register the service, because that would have created the SMF definition using the default, which would run the service as root. Instead, a custom XML script was developed so that the service runs as the imsadmin userid. The relevant lines from the script are as follows:

  <exec_method name='start' type='method' exec='/opt/sun/comms/im/sbin/imadmin start' timeout_seconds='120'>
  <method_context> <method_credential user='imsadmin' group='ims'/> </method_context>
  </exec_method>

  <exec_method name='stop' type='method' exec='/opt/sun/comms/im/sbin/imadmin stop' timeout_seconds='120'>
  <method_context> <method_credential user='imsadmin' group='ims'/> </method_context>
  </exec_method>
