Test Connection to the P6 Deployment in Gateway Shows Error "A Client Exception Occured While Trying to Perform Username Token Authentication: Fatal Error: Null"

Information in this document applies to any platform.
When attempting to test the connection for a P6 Deployment, the following error occurs.
Error in Connection. Verify connection parameters and try again.
The response was: A client exception occured while trying to perform username token authentication: Fatal error: null
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Log on Primavera Gateway.
2. Navigate to Configuration -> Deployments -> Edit the P6 deployment, input username, password, Endpoint then test connection. Connection fails with above error.
