Symptoms

When attempting to launch P6 Progress Reporter, the following error occurs:

java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP response code: 500 for URL:http://p...:8280/timesheet.jnlp
Unable to launch the application

In addition, the following error can be found in the server.log file:

<TIMESTAMP>,300 WARNING [com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.TDSChannel] (main) TDSChannel ( ConnectionID:1 TransactionID:0x0000000000000000) SSL handshake failed: The TDS protocol stream is not valid.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Launch Progress Reporter.
  2. Observe the error reported in the pop-up window, as detailed above.
  3. Observe the error reported in the server.log, as detailed above.
