Visualizer Prompts for Username and Password, But Does Not Launch (Doc ID 2215895.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to access Visualizer from within P6 Professional (Tools > Visualizer), a login screen is presented.  After entering the username / password and clicking the red button, nothing happens - the login does not complete.

The following error is visible in the <local drive>\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\PrimaveraVisualizerCmd.log file:

Log Message: Alias not specified and Using default alias: P6 Professional-1.
Log Message: Unable to connect to the database. Please run the Database Configuration tool or contact your administrator.
Log Message: Login Failed P6 Professional-1 admin
Log Message: Active Login Dialog.
Log Message: Unable to connect to the database. Please run the Database Configuration tool or contact your administrator.

 

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

1.  Login to P6 Professional.
2.  Select Tools > Visualizer from the menu.
3.  Observe the reported issue and corresponding log file error.
