Standard Unifier Error When Attempting to Progress a New Record to the Next Workflow Step (Doc ID 2219950.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to proceed any record to next step in a newly created Project/Shell the following error is being thrown:

The system could not process your request.
Logging in again my help in some cases

Contact your System Administrator if you are still having problems.

Self hosted environments: In the log, the following can be seen:

~ [[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '1' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'] ~DEBUG ~ workflow.Task ~... ~ advance:~...java.lang.NullPointerException...unifier:/studio/workflow/api/process/advance throws an exception at /studio/workflow/api.xml:326: ~ /studio/workflow/api.xml:326: Could not invoke method advance.
