How to Move an Environment to New Hardware (Doc ID 2224073.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 11, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Knowledge - Version 8.5 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

If the hardware is upgraded for a given environment, say production, how can you move the current production software and setup to new hardware servers?

First there are a lot of products that work in the oracle knowledge environment - weblogic or tomcat, ODI, OBIEE, the databases, Java.
With 8.5 the webserver was decoupled from the product. And the Analytics pieces are also dependent on stand alone products. There is no information in the Oracle Knowledge support team about moving these products.  Their documentation and Knowledge articles would have to be consulted.

For Oracle Knowledge the official recommendation would be to install to the same code level - release and patches - on the new machines and then migrate the customizations (front end apps, and propagation bundle, and any special config files and code jars to the new installation). If the database connections, directory structures and everything is the same on the new machines then not much except the IP addresses would need to be updated along with the configs for the various components.
