Goal

Is there an XMPP equivalent of IMAP RFC 2971?

Is there an XMPP protocol specification -- or anything we could find in some IM server log -- that identifies what XMPP client is being used?

Users may (or may not) have their "resource" set to a name that includes something about the device they are on.
For example, in my Adium setup I have "Kellys-MacBook-Pro".
But that is entirely up to the user to decide what to enter there. I could enter "iOS" on my Mac and vice versa.

Is there anything we should be able to find in the logs that we could trust to identify the client's OS and what XMPP client they are using?
