Symptoms
When attempting to send data between two applications (e.g. P6 to Unifier) through Gateway, the following error occurs:

Failure: Unexpected character('<' (code 60)): expected a valid value (number, String, array, object, 'true', 'false' or 'null') at [Source: java.io.StringReader@591a3561; line:1 column:2]

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
- Define business flow and sync job in Primavera Gateway.
- Execution of sync job failed at Update Destination step.
