Convergence Reports Error When User Logs In - The Operation Timed Out (Doc ID 2296309.1)

A single webmail (Convergence) user tries to log in with the Safari browser and gets the following error: TimeoutError (DOM exception 23): The operation timed out.
The error happens after about 10 seconds.
If the Firefox browser is used, it takes a long time, but eventually succeeds.

The user has nothing like invalid characters in a signature. Has nothing interesting in sieve filters. Has only has a few folders which do not contain many emails in them, unlike what is described in the following KM Document which was logged against Convergence 2.x:  Convergence Webmail TimeoutError: DOM Exception 23 (Doc ID 1920613.1)

Convergence does an LDAP search on an operational attribute "ismemberof" to look for the user as part of the authentication process. But, since there are nested groups, it sits there spinning, looking for the user nested in another, nested in another, etc.
