Attempting to add an adapter to CIS fails with: Unable to successfully communicate with adapter. The URL or specified certificate may be invalid.

The event log message says: The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.

It also shows this:

The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure.

CIS has just recently been installed.
