Clarification On "ENS Error: Error Interpreting Message (size):...not connected / disconnecting" (Doc ID 2296401.1)

Goal

Recently upgraded from 7u5 to 8.0.1 and seeing some errors in the ENS log that need further clarification. The errors are of this form in the default log:

[09/Aug/2017:17:40:46 +0000] <MAIL_HOST> enpd[166]: ENS Error: Error interpreting message (size): <userid> not connected
[09/Aug/2017:17:53:10 +0000] <MAIL_HOST> enpd[166]: ENS Error: Error interpreting message (size): disconnecting <userid>

It's a bit odd since ENS is logging this as an Error, but then seems to actually be trying to disconnect the user?

What does this error mean and what could be causing it?
