Custom Function Is Not Displaying Expected Changes To Case Form After Save

Created Function to update Case form after Save and before Commit.
Console > System Configuration > System Management (Common Profile Switches)
Click on Case Form Configuration
Checked: "Custom routine before commit" and added the function
The case needs to be Closed and Reopened in order to see the changes to the Case form.
