Long Delay on First Request to Storefront (Doc ID 2304117.1)

Symptoms

When the customer attempts loading Storefront homepage after a (re)start of the application server, it takes approx 15 minutes to bring the web page and the site functions normally thereafter.

Thread dumps collected during the delay shows that atg.vfs.webapp.WebAppFileSystem.indexEntries method was running and it exceeded the StuckThreadMaxTime timeout (600 seconds) also it blocked a few other threads.
