Symptoms

ACTUAL BEHAVIOR

When attempting to run an analysis which includes a dimension column (like a name field) and a fact column (like a metric), the results do not include rows which have 0 results for the metric.

For example:

  • When running an Analysis which includes Project Name (dimension column) and Number of Activities (Fact column), the results include only projects which contain at least 1 activity.
  • When running an Analysis which includes BP Name (dimension column), Month Name (dimension column) and Number of BP Records (Fact column), the results include only BPs which contain at least 1 record in a month.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

When attempting to run an analysis which includes a dimension column (like a name field) and a fact column (like a metric), the results should include rows which have no values (null or 0) for the associated fact.

For example:

  • When running an Analysis which includes Project Name (dimension column) and Number of Activities (Fact column), the results should include projects which have 0 activities.
  • When running an Analysis which includes BP Name (dimension column), Month Name (dimension column) and Number of BP Records (Fact column), the results should include BPs which contain 0 records for a given month.

STEPS

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Login to OBIEE.
  2. Select New > Analysis.
  3. Select an associated subject area.
  4. On the "New Analysis" page:
    1. Add associated columns from the criteria tab
    2. Select results
    3. Note that the results do not include rows which have null or 0 results for the associated fact column
Steps to reproduce are not limited to creation of an analysis. This can also account for an analysis already created.
