Getting 530 5.7.1 Relaying Not Allowed When Sending SMTP Traffic To An External Domain

Our domain is example.com. We don't use authentication for any our Outlook and Thunderbird clients. For a particular user account, if I send mail internally to an @example.com address, there is no problem. I can also send mail from Thunderbird internally or externally with no problem.
When using the Outlook 2016 client and sending to an external domain, we get a "530 5.7.1 Relaying not allowed without prior authentication" error. Here are examples:
