ISS indexing stalled and logs "CRITICAL StoreFailure : Exception while processing: message" error (Doc ID 2367407.1)

Goal

Observed ISS stalled while indexing:


This message was repeated 308,000 times over a 5 day period.

The message isn't big:

49 -rw------- 1 mailsrv mail 39757 Dec 28 07:41 906.msg


Issue was cleared after Message Store (8.0.2.1.20171208) was restarted.

This is the only occurrence of "CRITICAL StoreFailure" across all of our stores. What is the meaning of "CRITICAL StoreFailure" and why it would stop other accounts from being indexed?
