When Selecting Customize for a Global Search, the Popup Window Never Loads

Attempting to customize the search in Global Search. After clicking the customize button, the pop up window will loading forever.
User is unable to customize his search in Global Search.
Global search works fine. There is just an issue with customization.
In the log files of the server is following entry:
Exception: System.Web.HttpException (0x80004005): Request timed out.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Go to Global Search screen.
2. Select Customize button.
