The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Login to OBIEE.
  2. Creating a data source is a change to the domain's configuration, so the configuration must first be locked: click the Lock & Edit button in the Change Center section.
  3. In the administration console under Domain Structure, expand Services (by clicking the + next to it). Then click Data Sources.
  4. Under the Data Sources table heading, click the New drop-down list and select Generic Data Source.
  5. On the first page of the Create a New JDBC Data Source wizard:
    1. Enter the Name of the data source as mvdemo.
    2. Enter the JNDI Name of the data source as jdbc/mvdemo.
    3. Use the Database Type drop-down list to select Oracle.
    4. Click Next.
  6. On the second page of the wizard, keep the default selection in the Database Driver drop-down and click Next.
  7. On the next page of the wizard, keep all the default Transaction Options, and click Next.
  8. On the next page of the wizard:
    1. Enter the service name for the database hosting the Mapviewer schema.
    2. Enter the Host Name of the database server.
    3. Enter the database port.
    4. Enter the Database User Name for the schema hosting Mapviewer data.
    5. Enter the database user's password twice, in the Password and Confirm Password fields.
    6. Click Next
  9. On the next page of the wizard, click the Test Configuration button to verify that a connection to the Database can be made, based upon the information entered.
  10. Note the reported error which occurs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The JDBC creation was to implement usage of a service name for configuring Mapviewer with OBIEE.
