Can xquery handle JSON response from external system or should we use CustomAutomation Plugin

Customer has an external system replying to us on a queue using JSON. Can Xquery associated with external automator handle this JSON, or should be use custom automation plugin to handle this JSON response coming into the jms queue?

Customer tried using Xquery , but looks like it cannot read the JSON coming on the jms queue , Could you please let us know if it is possible .

Qn2: What would be the arguments for the function i need to pass , would it still be Inputxml?

Qn3: We are able to consume the JSON using the custom automation plugin, however below is our concern. Current version of OSM customer using is 7.2.0.12, if in the future , customer migrate to 7.3.5 , is there a possibility , the custom automation plugin or the xmlapis are deprecated and we would not be able to migrate this custom automation plugin ?
