How to Accept and Then Immediately Bounce Messages for Overquota Users ? (Doc ID 2426496.1)

Last updated on MARCH 31, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Messaging Server - Version 8.0.2 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Requirement:  Accept Message submission from MUAs for over-quota recipients, but then immediately bounce those messages. How can messages be immediately bounced ?

Scenario: Need to accept the mail because users will be submitting directly to these MTAs and require to minimize popup errors in the Mail clients. But then immediately bounce those messages, otherwise the MTA will keep trying for the duration of the Notices period to deliver the message, but always keep failing.  Need for faster notification to the sender that the message was un-deliverable (after accepting it in the first place of course!).  Users understand bounce messages saying the recipient is overquota, but are much less tolerant of popup errors caused by a failure to submit a message.

Can the MTA - Channel option Accepttemporaryfailures accept the message in the first place and then bounce ? If over-quota is made a permanent error, will it still be able to accept using 'accepttemporaryfailures' channel keyword ?
