Facing "Could Not Open Connection" While Running Batches (Doc ID 2466756.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 05, 2018

Goal

We have an issue with batch executions in our environment failing from time to time with this exception - "org.hibernate.exception.GenericJDBCException: Could not open connection". Threadpool worker log is attached. What we observed is that when framework puts more than 5 connections in connection pool and does not use them for a certain length of time(30 minutes), the framework throws this exception.

We were able to replicate this with both "on_close" and "after_transaction" property value for hibernate.connection.release_mode. The amount of connections in connection pool we see(11) is way below the maximum amount for that pool(300). We were able to fix the problem by using jdbc/ucp driver version 12.2.0.1 and we see a pause and invalid connections being dropped from the pool but no exceptions.
So we would like to know whether ORMB 2.5.0.2 is compatible with jdbc/ucp driver version 12.2.0.1 so that we can continue using it to avoid this exception and subsequent batch failures.
