Rehostuser -x Fails with Error "Unable To Restore Message Links ..." (Doc ID 2493234.1)

Symptoms

The rehostuser command seems to be broken between Messaging Server build 8.0.2.3.20180614 and 8.0.2.3.20181024.

The 'rehostuser' tool is commonly used to migrate users between store to balance disk and CPU usage. This appears to stop working on the Messaging Server hotfix bundle / build 8.0.2.3.20181024.

Consider the following sample rehostuser command syntax:


However, it should not be necessary to specify this option and it appears something has changed in the patch.
 
Steps to reproduce this issue:

  1. Copy a message from INBOX to another folder.
  2. Expunge the message(s) in INBOX.
  3. Run rehostuser with '-x' option.

Due to this issue, it is not possible to execute a successful rehostuser with the hotfix bundle 8.0.2.3.20181024.

Changes

Installed the latest Messaging Server hotfix bundle.
