Extending/Customize Inventory Status (Doc ID 2529363.1)

Last updated on APRIL 03, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Unified Inventory Management - Version 7.4.0.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

The customer needs to change or extend UIM Inventory Status due to client inventory Life cycle management.
Referring the Developers Guide Chapter 5 (Extending Life Cycles) and also verifying the Knowledge Article 794827.1: The Resource Assignment Status And Inventory Status Concepts in UIM, which states the following:
"We would not recommend changing the default behavior with a customized status.
If for any reason, the name of a UIM status needs to be changed - there is an option to extend the -transitions.xml based on the description found in Chapter 5 of the UIM developers guide (those files can be found in inventory.ear), However, since every UIM state transition is driven by a Business Action such as create, allocate - it take considerable thought and a good business process to extend the XML with a new status change and Business Action. We recommend caution and for most status that UIM does not have would consider a condition code."

The customer would like to know the risks related to this customization.
