ProductCatalog Corrupted after Importing Incorrect Catalog (Doc ID 2540128.1)

Symptoms

Many products detail pages on store front return 404, page not found error, and some product detail pages show wrong or missing product information. BCC server log contains following deployment failure:

This issue may be caused in various scenarios. One scenarios is importing an incorrect catalog, then attempt to revert the changes and importing a corrected catalog:
