Symptoms

When attempting to configure SQL Server database connection to P6 Professional, the following error occurs:

ERROR
Bad public user name or password. PRM DBAccess Error: Connection attempt to database failed with message SQL State: 1, SQL Error Code: 18456, Level: 14, Procedure: , Line: 1
Login failed for user 'pubuser'.;

STEPS
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Attempt to login to P6 Professional
  2. Unable to connect to database. Would you like to configure the database?
  3. Yes
  4. Configure the database connection for SQL Server
  5. Observe reported error.
