Symptoms

When attempting to login to P6 Professional, the following error occurs:

ERROR

Unable to connect to the database. Please run the Database Configuration tool or contact your administrator

When attempting to configure the database alias, the following error occurs:

ERROR

Database connection returned error: PRM DBAccess Error: Connection attempt to database failed with message disk I/O error

STEPS

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Attempt to login to P6 Professional.
  2. Observe the "Unable to connect...." error.
  3. Attempt to configure the database alias.
  4. Observe the "Database connection returned error.."
