Last updated on JUNE 30, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Messaging Server - Version 8.1.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

The goal is to install Messaging Server 8.1.0.0.0 on a Solaris 11 (or Solaris 11 x86-64) platform.

Consulted the official documentation here: https://docs.oracle.com/communications/F15020_01/doc.810/f15148/msins_install_and_config.htm#MSVIG304
The Oracle Directory Server Enterprise Edition 11g was installed and is up and running.

The Oracle Communications Messaging Server 8.1.0.0.0 software zip file was downloaded from: https://edelivery.oracle.com/.
The zip file was extracted.

The above link for the documentation says:

1. Go to the directory where you extracted the Messaging Server ZIP file.
2. Run the installer (rpm -i)
3. Choose the installation directory or accept the default.
4. Select Messaging Server and proceed with the installation.

The rpm command does not exist on Solaris.
Further down on that same page, it talks about installing Messaging Server on Solaris zones.  But, this is not a zone in this case.

How does one go about installing Messaging Server 8.1.0.0.0 on a Solaris platform?
