Symptoms

On : 5.2.0.0.0 version, RateManager

ACTUAL BEHAVIOR
---------------
Softrater memory leak

Problem Symptoms:
• JVM Heap Memory becomes exhausted; Heap memory slowly builds until the JVM no longer handles new requests
• Socket Timeout errors on webservers when attempt to reach unavailable PC Insbridge SoftRater JVMs
• HTTPServerErrors 500 PC Insbridge Softer JVM(s)

PC Insbridge SoftRater environment:
• 4 servers (2 physical, 2 virtual)
• 16 JVMs total (4 JVMs per physical, virtual servers)
• JVMs each have 12 GB Heap Memory allocated

Additional Information:
The CPUs being different than the number on the physical boxes does not appear to be related to the Out Of Memory issues observed on the PC Insbridge SoftRater JVMs as this problem is not isolated to only the virtual server JVMs.

Only resolution is to recycle the production JVM's which results in a temporary outage for our production applications.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
-----------------------
Should not have to restart JVM to free up memory.

STEPS
-----------------------
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
We have nightly batch jobs that do policy renewal processing. This sudden load causes the JVMs to run out of memory. We reproduce this issue each night, unless we restart our JVMs right before the peak processing starts.

BUSINESS IMPACT
-----------------------
The issue has the following business impact:
Due to this issue, JVMs must be restarted to free up memory.
