Excel XLSX Cannot Be Opened After Imported Into P6

Symptoms
DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM:
When attempting to open an xlsx file after import, the following error occurs.
ERROR:
.xlsx is locked for editing by another user.
Open 'Read-Only' or click 'Notify' to open read-only and receive notification
when the document is no longer in use.
and
The action can't be completed because the file is open in Primavera P6.
STEPS:
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
- Import Excel file to P6 Professional.
- After import is completed, open the excel file from the location on the hard drive.
- Note the message unless P6 Professional is closed.
