Hyperlinks To Local Files Getting 'about:blank#blocked' Error in Chrome (Doc ID 2760767.1)

Symptoms

User is trying to add a hyperlink to a file stored on a network drive in a MultiText field. This functionality works correctly without any other modifications in Internet Explorer 11, but is blocked by Chrome and Firefox. Internet Explorer opens the Hyperlink without issue. User would like to know if there is workaround to encode the links in an Agile MultiText field so they will work in current browsers or perhaps they are doing something incorrect. 

 

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
--------------------------------------

  1. When user selects “Open link in new window/tab” in Chrome, it opens up window that shows about:blank#blocked.  
  2. If user clicks on the link, it opens correctly, but if user selects “Open link in new window/tab” then user gets about:blank#blocked. 
  3. In Internet Explorer, in opens the Hyperlink without issue.
